HMAS Brisbane

The Queensland Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is the lead agency responsible for the ‘Sink the Brisbane’ project and for long-term management of the Brisbane artificial reef and dive site.

• The ship was scuttled on Sunday 31 July 2005.

• Four dive operators are currently permitted to run trips to the wreck.

• The ship is located approximately 2.9 miles to the east of Mudjimba (Old Women) Island. 

• It is in approx 28m on a sandy bottom. This puts the 'Cat' just inside state waters (3 mile limit).

• The ship was sanitized and prepared for easy access by divers.

• A marine park has been proclaimed around the wreck. 

• Appropriate management plans have been put in place by EPA for the new marine park / permits etc.

• A documentary has been commissioned by the government.
